How to Discover Yourself in Self-Isolation

In self-isolation since February 21

At the time of writing this piece, on April 16, I have been in self-isolation for a total of 50+ days, and counting, across two different continents. It’s safe to say that I have become an expert at finding ways to keep busy, stay productive, and maintain my sanity in self-isolation.

I was living in Seoul till March 1, when I moved back to Vancouver, Canada. In Seoul, I was locked in my apartment from February 21 till my departing flight. When I arrived in Vancouver, I self-quarantined for the mandatory two-week period, and just as my self-quarantine ended, the Canadian government took measures to lock down the country, mandating that people stay home.

I will admit, my experience in isolation has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride. It was fun for the first few days. I took afternoon naps, caught up on a lot of work, and binge-watched The Crown on Netflix.

Then came the cabin-fever, existential crises, and loneliness. The gym was closed, I felt like I was wasting my days, yet I couldn’t bring myself to do anything productive, and I hadn’t seen anyone I knew in a long time. I rarely showered, or even brushed my…
