I wholeheartedly agree. I’m so sorry!
What upsets me the most is that some people perceive this situation as an opportunity, completely ignoring a sense of humanity and empathy for each other. It seems like a good time to vent…
I was an equities analyst for a period of my life until I realized money was changing my personality. I left that job a while ago, but I still followed financial publications and news outlets for my own investment purposes and because markets interest me.
I can’t listen to the news anymore because it makes me sick to my stomach. In a 45 min broadcast, I’d listen to 43 minutes of defensive stock picks, which companies have a strong balance sheet, which stocks to short, what options to buy. And for 2 minutes, I’d hear something about the struggling workers who are the bedrock of our economy. Sometimes, less. Even jobless claim numbers are communicated in a way that neglects the actual people; instead, focusing on future relief packages and what that will mean for the overall economy, indexes, etc.
I don’t know what the solution is, but if there were ever a time to rethink our economic systems, consider that millions of Americans are losing their jobs, big companies are receiving massive bailouts from the government AGAIN, $2 trillion in relief injected to supposedly stimulate the economy for the ‘people’ with another $250 billion on the way, yet SOMEHOW, there is still a market for information that will make some person even richer, obviously at the expense of someone less fortunate. I’m embarrassed to have been a part of this system.
